A Winch, whether manual or powered will need a wire rope cable to complete the winching operation.  There are a huge number of operations where winches are utilized including towing vehicles, rescue objects that are stuck, or to winch items and loads within warehouse settings. Winches are also commonplace on rescue vehicles and also boats, but sea faring vessels may use synthetic rope rather than wire rope.

The key with winch cable is that it needs to be strong and flexible, because it will  be handling heavy loads whilst also needing to wind around the winch drum.  It’s not just lifting  and pulling capabilities that need to be considered. Factors such as elasticity, flexibility, sturdiness and the transferring of energy all need to be thought about with any winch. 

7x19 Galvanized Winch Rope Construction

7x19 construction rope offers the right amount of flexibility to be wound around the drum of a winch and has good crush resistance. The 7x19 refers to the number of wires and strands that make up the rope, therefore this rope has 7 main strands that are twisted to form the rope, each of the 7 strands is made up of 19 smaller wires that are twisted into a strand.

For this reason, our 7x19 winch cable is designed to be very robust, and strong whilst offering the necessary amount of flexibility. Being galvanised means the cable has really good protection against rust and corrosion, however depending on where it will be used (i.e. marine environments) the 7x19 stainless steel option may be better suited.

These are necessary in order to make your ropes with winches the finished product; without it, it’s just rope! For example, our strong and robust hooks can be used to latch onto vehicles, guarantee a safe winching operation.

We will ensure that whatever fitting you choose, it has been safely pressed onto your winch rope, creating an end termination that will last. For the ends of rope that don’t require a fitting, and need to fit into the winch recess our rope team will fuse and taper the end; this will stop the cable unravelling whilst also creating a smoother finish foe easier installation. Proper Rope Care and Maintenance

The proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your 7x19 galvanized winch cable. After each use, especially in dirty or corrosive environments, clean the cable with fresh water and allow it to dry completely.  Apply a light coating of appropriate wire rope lubricant periodically to help protect the internal wires and maintain flexibility.

Inspect the cable regularly for broken wires, kinks, or areas where the galvanized coating has worn away. Store the cable in a dry location when not in use, and avoid sharp bends or kinks that can damage the internal structure.

When to Replace Your Winch Cable

Even the best-maintained cable will eventually need replacement. Replace your 7x19 galvanized wire rope when you notice multiple broken wires, significant wear, kinking, or corrosion that has penetrated through the galvanized coating. A damaged cable is not just ineffective – it can be dangerous.
