Marine Ropes
Our selection of marine ropes includes yacht rope and braided rope – quite similar!
All made from man made materials but may be constructed in a different way. These ropes are suitable for a wide range of applications in marine and sea faring environments.
About Marine Ropes
Marine ropes are chosen because of their properties. Typically and most importantly they can handle being wet with no detriment to their abilities. It is worth noting that out of the three man made ropes – polyester, polypropylene and nylon only one can float and that is polypropylene. Polyester is quite a dense rope and nylon quickly absorbs water so both will sink.
This makes polypropylene best suited for tasks used around water where you need to see it continuously. Rescue rope, float rope and water sports spring to mind, although the list of uses is expansive.
Here is an easy to read comparison table to help your choice.

What is braided rope used for?
There are many benefits to using braided rope. Braided ropes come in 2 types, in single or double braided (also known as braid on braid). The ropes are constructed from a number of different strands that have been weaved together.
Single braided rope is extremely strong and can so can be used for lifting operations, as well as in counterweight systems. Braid on braid is thicker and subsequently stronger.
Given the strong and durable nature of this equipment, it is even used for emergency life-saving operations such as rescue rope. Common uses include cruising rope, dockline, mooring rope, dinghy rope, surf line and much more.
Yacht Rope
Yacht ropes are primarily used for rigging purposes with yachts. A popular use for example is to create a lazy jack. This is a type of rigging that is applied to the fore-and-aft rigged sail of a yacht. This type of rigging helps the yacht to sail, and allows for those operating the vessel to handle it better during reefing and furling. Sheet lines, dock lines, halyards and control lines are typical uses for yacht rope as well as for multiple other rigging options and general purpose use.
