Our Wire rope clamps are normally utilised where splicing or socketing of the wire isn’t practical. Rope grips or clamps are used for providing a temporary connection by either securing 2 pieces of rope together tightly they make a solid connection, or to form a loop at the end of the rope to create a firm anchor point. Using Wire Rope Clamps and Rope Grips

Wire rope clamps or grips are utilised most commonly to fasten the loose end or the rope back on itself to form a loop or eye. They are also used to anchor two pieces of rope together, side by side; when used in this way multiple clamps are often used for optimum securing.

A wire rope clamp typically consists of 4 simple parts; a ‘u’ shaped bolt, a saddle and a pair of securing nuts. The 2 layers of the wire rope are positioned within the u bolt. Next the forged saddle subsequently fixes on top of the wire ropes on to the bolt. Then the 2 nuts then secure in place. A spanner or wrench should be used to ensure the nuts are as tight as possible to prevent slippage.

Most clamps have standard nuts, however if you opt for heavy duty rope clamps the nuts have a knurled finish which gives them more bite/grip when tightened to the saddle.

Choosing the right size of grip is extremely important, so you will need to know the diameter of your rope. Larger ropes may need more than one clamp whether used to create a loop or simply connecting 2 pieces.

Safety Protocols for Wire Rope Clamps

Following the initial installation, it is wise to check the tightness of the clamp after a short time, this is because after firstly being put under tension the rope may compress slightly and therefore come a little looser; So re-tighten to ensure you don't get unwanted slippage or loosening of rope tension. If used under high force or where vibrations are present the clamps will need to be checked quite regularly to ensure the nuts and thus rope remain secure.
