Stainless Steel Wire Rope Stoppers Versatility

Our range of stainless steel wire rope stoppers can be utilised for a number of applications and are essentially used to stop a wire rope from slipping and/or moving past its fixed point. Therefore, they could be used on a wire rope winch, but only to anchor the initial layer of rope, (depending on winch and rope size). Other potential uses as stops/positioning, include picture rails and curtain tracks, garage door release cables or gym cable. They are great for hanging shelf systems. The stoppers support shelves on the vertical rope on a suspended shelving system, they can be positioned and moved to create the spacing you require.

The marine industry is probably where they are most likely to be used and serve as reliable stops on mooring lines or prevent rope from running through blocks or fairleads for example. The stainless properties ensure resistance from corrosion due to briny conditions.

How a Wire Rope Stopper Works

Our wire rope stoppers come in two halves and will have either 2 or 4 grub type screws for securing to the wire. On the small, standard version there are 2 screws, with one going in from each side. On the heavy duty version there are 4 screws which are all inserted through one half. The grub screws are tightened with a hex type tool or Allen key (not supplied). Take care not to overtighten the screws as this may damage and weaken the wires.

Rope fittings come in a wide range of designs with different fitting techniques. Rope clamps and grips can be fitted manually with basic tools, as can rigging screws, turnbuckles  and shackles. Other fittings such as ferrules, swaged terminations and sockets need specialist machinery.
