The Eureka wirelock grip is one of the few wire rope clamps
that has been certified to be used in lifting applications. Available in a
range of sizes to suit rope diameters from 4mm up to 16mm.
Like other rope grips the Eureka wirelock comes in two
halves with hex screws for securing; however the inner section where the wire
rope sits are quite different. Rather than being a straight channel it
incorporates a couple of curves which helps to prevent the rope from slipping
straight out.
Each grip is made from non-aging carbon steel with the hex
bolts being 40Cr grade 12.9 for optimum strength. The finish varies slightly according to size;
up to 6mm have an electro-zinc galvanized finish and sizes 8-16 have been hot
dip galvanized. Each grip is marked for full traceability.
The manufacturer states suitability for use is for suspending
static loads and single use lifting tasks. Always use the correct thimble in
the rope eye for optimum strength and stability, ensuring the first grip is
positioned as close to the thimble as possible to prevent the thimble from
falling out.
This collection of grips has been tested according to EN 13411-5 standards for lifting applications, however you must use them according to the manufacturer with the correct wire rope. You should always use at least two Eureka wirelock grips tightened to the correct torque to secure ropes for lifting tasks. (see table below and manual above for more detail).
When used correctly Eureka wire rope grips are able to
handle up to 90% of the ropes minimum breaking load, thus ensuring high safety
levels and reliability. The special internal design assumes high friction
between the grip and the rope to provide a secure grip.
If using these grips to connect two ropes it must be done
using two grips to create a loop on each rope which are connected with a
suitable extension joint (see image). They can not be used to connect two
overlapping ropes or two ropes in continuation of each other.
Remember to regularly check the tightness of each grip prior
to each use.
Not all ropes can be used with the Eureka grip. The
manufacturer recommends wire rope with 6 or 8 strands. 6x19 or 6x36 or 8x19
ordinary lay rope constructions with either a wire or fibre core are ideal.
They should have a tensile strength up to 1960 N/mm².
The Eureka wire rope grip should not be used with compacted
ropes or plastic coated ropes.
Rope grips come in a variety of formats from the popular
saddle type clamps which are available in commercial, green pin and stainless
versions, to simplex and duplex grips. Other types include the gripple self-locking grip and a selection of loop clamps, Trellis cross clips are also available
from the wire rope clamp range at Rope Services Direct.
