Mobile Crane Hoist Rope Construction

At Rope Services Direct we recognise the need for specific attributes when it comes to mobile crane hoist rope. Rotation resistant properties are particularly important, especially when used for very high lifts, such as achieved on a mobile crane. The special construction prevents the rope from spinning when loaded. The rope strands are laid in multiple layers, each layer is laid in the opposite direction so the outer strands twist one way and the inner strands in the opposite direction, this creates opposing torque to cancel each other out, therefore creates hook and load stability.

Add this together with the compaction process and you get a great all round rope. Compacted rope is pulled through dies to compress the rope, filling in internal voids in each strand, whilst making the strands smaller in diameter with a smoother surface. This all means that smaller rope diameters can be used with a similar breaking strength to a non-compacted rope, and are smoother to handle, run more smoothly over pulleys and are crush resistant.

You will see our chosen mobile crane hoist ropes below, some will have what is known as a Warrington steel core. This means the inner layer is made up from strands of alternating diameters in order to fill valleys or voids between layers; the ropes will nestle together more snugly. A Warrington core provides excellent stability, increased abrasion and fatigue resistance and high breaking strength.
