About Container Crane Hoist, Trolley and Boom Ropes

There is a wide range of steel ropes that could be suitable for the three kinds of rope found on a container crane. The choice can be daunting so we have narrowed it down to 8 ropes that are multi – purpose and can be used for the hoist, trolley and/or boom rope without issue.

We have a choice of 8 strand or 9 strand ropes which are fully compacted and incorporate a plastic impregnated filler between the inner and outer layers. The plastic filler protects internal wires from abrasion whilst also improving rope handling and behaviour. Fleet angles and repetitive cycles are no problem for these ropes.

8 Strand

The 8 strand construction is for use with guided systems only like trolley and boom ropes, however due to the nature of a container crane they can be used as the hoist rope too if it suits the hoisting system.

The 9 strand ropes are high performance steel ropes and incorporate a Warrington core, these are ideal for heavy duty applications and can be used for hoist, trolley and boom ropes on a container crane.
