Tower Crane Hoist Ropes
Tower cranes are typically seen on large construction sites, often in high rise areas. A tower crane commonly utilises three wire ropes for the hoist, the trolley and the boom. Below you will find our range of tower crane hoist ropes. For trolley and boom ropes see here.

About Tower Crane Hoist Ropes
The hoist ropes used on tower cranes will need to be rather long, they will also need to be super strong and most importantly anti-spin or rotation resistant. Rotation resistant (RR) rope is constructed in a specific way – each layer of strands is laid in the opposite direction to counteract torque. When loaded this feature will prevent the rope from spinning out of control and causing harm.
Crush resistance is also another beneficial feature to consider which is why all our tower crane hoist ropes are compacted. The compaction process fills voids between the wires and flattens the outer layer making it much smoother to slide over drums, sheaves and pulleys.
A compacted wire rope also has the additional benefit of smaller diameters when compared to a non-compacted rope with the same strength which can provide multiple benefits,
Constructions of Tower Crane Hoist Rope
All the below ropes are rotation resistant and compacted. Also all ropes incorporate a Warrington core which provides additional benefits. A Warrington core typically consists of 2 layers, the centre has equal diameter and construction whilst the outer layer consists of alternating sizes and constructions. This enables strands to nestle together neatly whilst reducing voids, this helps to prevent internal abrasion and optimising strength and performance.

Other Crane Hoist Ropes
As wire ropes come in numerous constructions some are better suited to specific crane types. Plastic impregnated ropes are popular hoist ropes for overhead cranes, container cranes and steel/paper mill cranes for example. Take a look at each type of crane to see the wire ropes that are best suited to each. You must ensure the rope you choose in compatible with your hardware.
