More information about blue spilt film rope and polypropylene

Our blue split film rope is manufactured from polypropylene, also known as polyprop. This material is a popular thermoplastic polymer that has enjoyed widespread use for millions of applications around the world.

It is produced by heating chemicals to such a level where polymers are left behind. Polymers can then be turned into fibres or plastics. In the case of blue split film rope, these polymers are turned into fibres.

Polypropylene is a man-made, synthetic type of equipment. And, generally speaking, it is the least expensive type of man-made rope. Synthetic ropes offer numerous benefits for their users. These include:

  • It has a high melting point
  • It enjoys a translucent hue, making it useful for applications where aesthetics or the transfer of light is important
  • It’s an elastic material, but loses nothing when it comes to toughness as it isn’t too soft
  • Highly resistant to UV rays, which is important as this equipment is often used outdoors
  • It’s also resistant to harmful chemicals too, such as acids
  • Further adding to its good level of resistance is the fact that it is also strong and protected against general wear and tear damage such as twisting, crushing, bending, abrasion and fatigue
  • Polyprop also has a high level of resistance against electricity, and so finds widespread use in electronic components

Clearly, as you can see, our this equipment offers a wide number of benefits.

Blue Split Film Rope Uses

For the above reasons, this equipment is very popular amongst the marine and sailing industry but is also a great general purpose rope which can be used for a range of low key non-critical purposes.

Being very lightweight whilst also extremely good value for money this rope is popularly used with tarpaulins and also with lorry lashings. With added in rot-proof and shrink-proof qualities this rope is available in 4mm to 12mm diameters in 2mm increments and is sold in coils of up to 220 metres in length.

Things to consider with fibre rope

It’s important to note that there are some drawbacks to this equipment. Namely that it has a high level of flammability, has a high level of thermal expansion, and a lower resistance to chlorinated solvents. It’s also difficult to paint, should you be wishing to do this.

Alongside this, it’s a man-made synthetic piece of equipment, rather than a natural fibre rope. Which means that it is stronger and has a longer service life.

If your operation involves any of the above elements, then you may want to consider another of our fibre rope products. To discuss this, you can find our contact details below. However, should blue split film rope be the right choice for you; you will be able to enjoy one of the most popular types of rope on the market!
