There are differences between the compacted and non-compacted examples of the 6x36 construction 10mm steel rope. Perhaps unsurprisingly the compacted version offers a higher safe working load, while the non-compacted iteration tops some way below. The former is heavier than the latter, while also being a little less flexible, which is worth bearing in mind. Compacted steel cable is easier and nicer to handle. The smooth outer enables unhindered pulling over sheaves and pulleys whilst slipping through hands smoothly too.
