About Piling Crane Hammer Ropes
The hammer line on a piling crane using the impact hammer type, undergoes repetitive lifting cycles in order to hammer the piles into the ground. The ropes will be continuously moved back and forth over a pulley/sheave as it raises and drops the hammer. A compacted rope will be beneficial for these scenarios as the smoother surface will run better whilst being more resistant to wear and abrasion. Smaller diameter ropes can also be used as they have the same breaking strength as a non-compacted rope with a larger diameter.
Types of Hammer Rope
Our collection of piling crane hammer rops incorporates three key types;
Compacted rope with a fibre core – good shock resistance and flexible;
Compacted rope with a wire core – stronger;
Plastic impregnated rope (PIR) – best for minimising internal wire abrasion, rope behaviour and repetitive lifting cycles.
Here is a brief breakdown of these hammer ropes – you can find the full specifications in the documentation section above.
Standard Ropes
Typically for lighter use.
6x31 FC
6x31 FC
10mm to 28mm diameter options. 6 compacted strands around a fibre core, good flexibility with shock absorption. Lighter use.

6x31 WC
6x31 WC
10mm to 28mm diameter options. 6 compacted outer strands over a 7x7 wire core. For lighter use.

6x36 FC
6x36 FC
32mm to 42mm diameter options. A lighter use rope with a fibre core in 2160 breaking strength.

6x36 WC
6x36 WC
30mm to 62mm diameter options. Compacted outer layer with a 7x7 steel wire core. 2160 breaking strength.

Plastic Impregnated Ropes
These ropes have a high breaking strength, crush resistance and bend fatigue resistance, they are fully compacted with a plasticised filler between inner and outer layers and ideal for repetitive lifting cycles, fleet angles and better rope behaviour.
8x19 PIR
8x19 PIR
6.5mm to 15mm diameter options. Improved rope behaviour for heavy duty applications. Fully compacted.

8x26 PIR
8x26 PIR
16mm to 32mm diameter options. Fully compacted with plastic filler between layers for optimum handling and abrasion resistance.

8x31 PIR
8x31 PIR
34mm to 58mm diameter options. 1960 or 2160 breaking strength choices. Fully compacted strands with plastic filler.

8x36 PIR
8x36 PIR
60mm to 65mm diameter options. 1960 breaking strength. Fully compacted plastic impregnated rope.

Crane Rope Options
Always choose your crane rope to match the original from your crane to ensure safety, stability and compatibility with hardware.
Rope Services Direct can supply rope for most types of cranes with overhead crane rope being a popular request. All our ropes can be terminated with fittings of your choosing is our rope workshop.
