The Use of Wire Rope Goods in Construction

23 September, 2016
The construction industry, much like the manufacturing industry is one of the most important industries in the world. It involves the construction of buildings and infrastructure, whether this is the homes we live in, the offices we work in or the tourist attractions that we visit. Rope goods are used throughout this industry on a daily basis.

Why are wire rope goods used in the construction industry?

The construction industry requires the heavy moving, lifting, suspending, and lowering of various materials, objects and construction pieces such as concrete blocks. It is vitally important that a building or project is constructed safely and securely, so as to prevent from degradation over time, and so the equipment being used needs to be heavily relied upon. Wire rope goods are manufactured with reliability in mind, and it will ensure that whatever the construction task is at hand, even if it is the lifting of items up hundreds of meters, can be done safely and efficiently. It is also manufactured to have a high level of abrasive resistance, and so can safely be run through items such as sheaves, which are commonly found on construction sites. They are also compatible with other small pieces of construction equipment, such as wedge sockets, which easily attach to the lifting equipment. Thanks to its internal core and the helix shape that it has been twisted in to, the material is much better than standard rope for construction projects, particularly if it is non-rotation rope.

How are ropes used in the construction industry?

Rope made from wire is commonly used with other forms of lifting gear, such as cranes, for the completion of construction projects. As they are able to support a high level of weight, stress, and tension, they are perfect for the heavy lifting that cranes do. Other items that the material might be used with in the construction industry are sheave wheels, which can hold up to 200 tonnes in weight, and in typical construction machinery found on a work site. Construction projects themselves may also be completed with the use of rope, whether this is internally or externally. Such projects include suspension bridges or concrete columns, and more often than not the material provides the critical supporting structure that holds constructions together, such as with a multi-story building. Famous construction projects that have been completed in the industry using the lifting medium include impressive buildings such as the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, and other projects, such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. wire rope goods The material has been used for the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco

What other industries is it used in?

The construction industry is one of the most important industries for its use, but it has uses in at least a dozen other industries. More information on this can be found in our extensive article Wire Rope Use Across Industrial Sectors .
